Debt Relief Solutions – December 2022

Normally in this space, we would highlight a file that we have been able to review and then suggest a solution for either a proposal or a bankruptcy or a different option, like refinancing a home if it makes sense to do so. Instead, I would like to leave you with some helpful financial tools.

November is Financial Literacy Month, and the goal of financial literacy is to take the complex and make it simple to understand. It is also about speaking in clear language and having a conversation about money that makes sense.

A good place to start that journey is a government agency you may not be aware of –  the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada or FCAC – it has some great resources on its website.

March is Fraud Prevention Month – but I think every month is fraud prevention month – since no one wants to be a victim of it. Whether it is a “loan for a fee” or a “crypto-currency” scam – every fraudster is getting increasingly sophisticated in their approach by imitating banks and government agencies – so as consumers, we need to be more sophisticated in our resistance to scams.

Should you or someone you know be a victim of fraud – you can contact the Canadian Ant-Fraud Centre. Their website also has some great suggestions on ways to protect yourself.

The goal of our various celebrations is not to break the bank, but to break bread with friends, family and those that matter to us – celebrating the year that is coming to an end and sharing our hopes and plans for the year ahead.

And with that, the staff at Doyle Salewski wish you and your family all the best this holiday season.
